Climate Change

BLOG about the following:
  1. What do you personally find most troubling about climate change?
One of the things that I find most troubling about climate change right now is the viewpoint that Donald Trump has on it.  I thought the article that was on Obama and White House Website was really helpful information and it seemed truthful.  I find it troubling that Donald Trump doesn't fully believe in climate change and he doesn't see it as a priority to peoples health.  Even in a recent 60 Minutes interview he didn't fully admit that it is an issue and the science behind it.  I think despite what the research supports, he has his own viewpoints on the issue, but that results in less efforts being put into addressing climate change.
  1. As a public health professional, what do you think needs the greatest attention right now?
I think right now the greatest attention needs to be on efforts on reducing what we are currently doing that is making the problem worse.  I think it would be less impactful to put our attention on what future plans there should be to alleviate the climate change when it will just continue if we don't pay attention to what we are doing now that is causing it.  If we don't focus on preventing more climate change by changing actions now, this issue will just keep getting larger and larger to try to tackle.
  1. If you were visiting with a long-lost relative who had never heard about climate change, how would you describe it and its attendant human health and ecological threats?
I would describe climate change as changes in the weather and climate patterns that result in thing like wildfires, drought, flooding, rising water levels, melting ice caps, ruined crops, etc.  These are results of an increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which is similar to a greenhouse.  This has a lot of negative effects on the environment and the health of humans.  For instance:
- Climate change will impact wildfires which has an impact on the quality of air that we breath
- Extreme events such as flooding and hurricanes impact the physical safety and mental health of people
- Food instability due to climate change.  This can also have an impact on the amount of fruits and vegetables people eat and the quality of food.
This also impacts the environment because area are ruined by disasters such as flooding, fires, hurricanes, and this impacts the animals who live in that area.  It also impacts the air that animals are exposed to as well.

  1. Jillian- I can relate to the frustration that the current administration is not taking action against climate change. Additionally, I think it's important to stop making the problem worse and try to reduce the damage. Great bullet points in explaining climate change, the truth is that it is very simple and people need to understand it from a point of view of how it affects them.
